Sod turn and contractor announcement marks significant milestone

The Wentworth community is a step closer to a new hospital, with construction set to commence on the $30 million Wentworth Health Service.

Over 40 people attended a sod turn event on-site on 28 November 2023, marking the start of construction of the new hospital.

HPAC Pty Ltd. has been engaged as the main works contractor for the new facility.

Over 40 people attended the sod turn event, including members of the project team from Health Infrastructure and the the Far West Local Health District, representatives of HPAC, Wentworth Health Service staff, Wentworth Shire Council Mayor and General Manager, Elders from the project Aboriginal Advisory Group, and representative from Two Rivers Health Council, Wentworth Historical Society and the project’s Arts Working Group.

The event included a smoking ceremony by local Elders and attendees enjoyed a morning tea following the event provided by the hospital.

The redevelopment will provide a significant boost to the local economy and is estimated to support approximately 50 direct jobs during construction, with the potential for supporting many more indirect jobs over the life of the project.

Construction will commence in early 2024 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

All current services at Wentworth Health Service will continue to operate during construction. Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and the community will be informed of any planned changes.
